FISHING

Lake Pend Oreille is home to an assortment of fish

including Rainbow Trout, Lake Trout (Mackinaw), Yellow Perch and Smallmouth Bass, Whitefish, Northern Pike, Northern Pike Minnow and Kokanee (aka Landlocked Salmon and Blueback salmon).

Dock fishing: Bass, Whitefish and the Northern Pike Minnow are most likely to be caught using a hook and worm by either casting or just dropping a line in the water. This is great fun for children as you can see the fish take your hook. You might see an occasional trout around the docks. We do allow fishing from the docks. Children must be supervised and should wear an approved life jacket which can be borrowed at MacDonald’s Resort store.

Shore fishing: There are many areas where you can go to throw casting bait or hook, worm and bobber. You may catch Bass, Whitefish, or Trout. Farragut State Park is a good place to fish and there are many trails in Farragut State Park that follow the lake shore.

Boat fishing: Some people enjoy trolling with flies or lures to catch Rainbow Trout, Lake Trout or Kokanee. If you would like to try trolling, we rent 16’ aluminum fishing boats at our store; by the hour, 1⁄2 day or full day.

Licenses: We sell Idaho Fish and Game Licenses in our Office/Store. We also have fishing tackle, bait, lake maps and the most current local fishing information.
